SCCS Chapel

Within the halls of Sandusky Central Catholic School there is the All Saints Chapel, where Our Lord is always present in the tabernacle. The space for the chapel was designated back in the 1970’s. The chapel is right off the main hallway of the school. It was first dedicated in 1999 by Bishop Robert Donnelly. This chapel is a place for Mass, Adoration, and prayer. In 2023, after many years of conversation and planning, a renovation of the All Saints Chapel was undertaken. The desire was for our Catholic School here in Sandusky to have a dignified and beautiful chapel where our students and staff could grow in their faith and relationship with God.

All Saints Chapel Renovation (2023)

This renovation was accomplished through the help of many individuals and contractors. The renovation began as soon as school was dismissed for the summer of 2023. In the demolition phase, it was discovered that some of the plaster walls were detached from the wire, causing the wall to fall off in places. A large section of wall around the perimeter of the room had to be removed back to original metal studs and drywall installed, taped, and mudded in order to fix the crumbling walls. A stage was built in the corner to serve as the sanctuary of the chapel. A new vinyl floor, fresh paint, new HVAC system, updated lighting and sound system, as well as a new acoustic ceiling were all completed as part of the renovation. The reredos, free standing altar and ambo were built by New Holland Church Furniture Company out of Pennsylvania. The stained glass windows, as well as the shadow boxes that are in the chapel, were acquired through Henninger’s. The original window itself came from the closed church of St. Hedwig’s in Toledo, Ohio. The ten Saints depicted in the stained glass are: St. Stanislaus Kostka, St. Francis, St. Benedict, St. Anthony, St. Casimir, St. Hedwig, St. Anne, St. Pius, St. Therese, and St. Joseph. The renovation of the All Saints Chapel has given SCCS a beautiful and dignified place for our students and staff to grow in their faith and love of God, all the while growing in holiness and striving to be present day saints.
