Service

As we read in the Letter of St. James, “For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.” (James 2:26). As a response to their baptismal call, our students engage in service both in and out of school. Our Christian service program attempts to open the eyes and hearts of students to people who are socially and economically different from them.  Service helps students realize they are not only part of their family, but also a local, national and world community that is interconnected. Students come to realize injustices that occur in any corner of the world have an impact on them, and it is their duty as moral human beings to be concerned and fight for change.

Students in grades 9-10 are required to complete 10 hours of Christian service per semester outside of the school day. Students in grades 11-12 participate in a two-year service project with the same organization which requires a minimum of 40 hours of service spread throughout the two years. Students in grades 6-12 participate in two “Service Days” during the school year.

These days allow students to volunteer at local organizations throughout the Sandusky area that they may never have encountered before. Students in lower grades participate in service projects within the school such as Thanksgiving and Christmas collections.

Please see the student handbook for service hour requirements for graduation.
